Bart is the director of the GMP facility. His passion is to bring exciting cutting-edge research to the clinic for the benefit of patients in need.

As director of the GMP unit he initiated collaborations with several investigators to perform clinical studies testing advanced therapy medicinal product for lung cancer, liver cancer, stem cell transplantation, chronic pain, … as well as prophylactic vaccines.

He founded the Cord Blood Bank at the Red Cross Flanders in 2001 and in 2014 the GMP unit at the university hospital of Ghent (UZ Gent). As a clinician, he is responsible for all cell, tissue and organ donations at the UZ Gent.

He studied at Ghent University (MD), Leiden University (PhD), Stanford University (postdoc) and Université de Paris (DUTS). He is an expert in immunology and transplantation.
