The new GMP facilities of Ghent University Hospital are entering the next phase.

Posted on

In March this year, CellGENTherapies has announced their one full floor new GMP facility in the Nobel Building on Ghent University campus. This initiative is being funded by EFRO, FWO and the Ghent University Hospital.

The team has worked hard to review the design plans of the cutting-edge cleanrooms with a focus on optimal processing and high-quality standards for GMP certified manufacturing of ATMPs and mRNA vaccines. All steps have been made in agreement with the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products of Belgium.

The infrastructure includes certified GMP cleanrooms and QC labs, cryopreservation units, digital GMP documentation, logistics support and a training centre.

Engineering and infrastructure plans are approved, and the project is moving into the next step. A public procurement procedure to cover the infrastructure needs, has been launched.

The new facilities of CellGENtherapies will have the manufacturing capabilities for in vitro transcribed RNA, lipid-nanoparticles, viral vectors (lentivirus), cell-based therapies (e.g. CAR-T, DC), including QC release testing, and GMP consultancy. The CellGENtherapies will also offer trainings in cleanroom operations and regulatory guidance.
